Let's get it on!

After the 8 miles went so well, I actually had a bad following week. I was feeling a little dinged up, so I only did one three mile run. So this last week I was worried, but I put in a five and a three and then ran the ten on Sunday and it went fine. It's like Lori said, the anxiety is the worst part, once I actually get my ass out there, it goes pretty well. I sent that first email out to about 25 girls, and now there are 4 of us. I can't wait to meet up with you guys at the finish line!

Finally registered!

Well, it is a done deal! I have paid my money and now I am in for sure. I had to resister as an additional spot or something like that, so I certainly hope they have space for me. I just finished my 10 miles today and I felt okay with it. I have to tell you, the anxiety level is huge before I get out there and I was just about to cry before running because I was scared to death I wasn't going to be able to do it, but then once I am out there, it all starts coming together. I am not sure what I am going to be free to do after the race bc my sister-in-law is running it also, and my whole in-law family is coming to watch (JOY!!! ugh) Well girls the end is near and we have come a far way!

Motivation

Runners, especially long-distance runners, have a lot of time to think about why they run. At some point, you may question why you run and wonder if you should continue to get out there. When that happens, remembering one of these quotes can give you the motivation to keep on running.
1. "You have to wonder at times what you're doing out there. Over the years, I've given myself a thousand reasons to keep running, but it always comes back to where it started. It comes down to self-satisfaction and a sense of achievement." - Steve Prefontaine
2. "I always loved running...it was something you could do by yourself, and under your own power. You could go in any direction, fast or slow as you wanted, fighting the wind if you felt like it, seeking out new sights just on the strength of your feet and the courage of your lungs." -Jesse Owens
3. "The will to win means nothing without the will to prepare." -Juma Ikangaa, 1989 NYC Marathon winner
4. "In running, it doesn't matter whether you come in first, in the middle of the pack, or last. You can say, 'I have finished.' There is a lot of satisfaction in that." -Fred Lebow, New York City Marathon co-founder
5. "Running is the greatest metaphor for life, because you get out of it what you put into it." -Oprah Winfrey
6. "Racing teaches us to challenge ourselves. It teaches us to push beyond where we thought we could go. It helps us to find out what we are made of. This is what we do. This is what it's all about." -PattiSue Plumer, U.S. Olympian
7. "Running is a big question mark that's there each and every day. It asks you, 'Are you going to be a wimp or are you going to be strong today?'" - Peter Maher, Canadian marathon runner
8. "We run, not because we think it is doing us good, but because we enjoy it and cannot help ourselves...The more restricted our society and work become, the more necessary it will be to find some outlet for this craving for freedom. No one can say, 'You must not run faster than this, or jump higher than that.' The human spirit is indomitable." -Sir Roger Bannister, first runner to run a sub-4 minute mile
9. "Ask yourself: 'Can I give more?'. The answer is usually: 'Yes'." -Paul Tergat, Kenyan professional marathoner
10. "The miracle isn't that I finished. The miracle is that I had the courage to start

HELLO!! MOTIVATION!! Where are you??

Anybody feeling less than motivated this week? It's horrible. I went to do my short run yesterday and I walked. I just couldn't find it in me and now it's approaching the end of the day and I am finding myself saying..."do I really have to run today?" Well obviously the answer is yes but shit I don't want to. It's raining out. I have to do dinner and meet with my parents before they leave and to be honest what sounds best to me...MY FREAKING COUCH!! And it would be nice if someone could take Brody. Well I am off to find motivation somewhere...Hope everyone else is doing better than me.

Feeling the pain...

So ladies I did my 9 on Saturday and it royally sucked. It took forever. The weird thing was at about 7 miles it felt better to run than walk and I was freezing from sweating so much. About 2 hours so I am thinking that I will be more than pleased if I can finish the race in 2 hours 40 minutes but who the hell knows at this point. My body has literally shut down until today. More joint problems than anything. My muscles felt fine but my knees would either lock up or feel like they were going to buckle. My calves started tightening yesterday but I decided nothing again today and then run Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. I am thinking my 10 won't be til Sunday either and I hope that I am not overly hungover but I will make my way thru it. I will be in Cleveland this upcoming weekend and we are Brody free on Saturday which makes for a dangerous combo. I am so psyched we are at the end of the road and so proud of all of us. All we need to do is finish!! Who cares what the time is!! I don't. I think we will feel differently on race day though. All the people. And it's the end of this round of training. I am game for anything ladies but I need to be at the finish line for the full marathon peeps cause my cousin has been training for her 1st full and want to be there to greet her at the end. But we are definitely hanging out cause I took the day after off of work so we don't have to leave til Monday. Have a great week ladies! This has been so much fun.

The Plan

One more tough week to go, then we coast into Race Day. Kelsey mentioned a post race party before, I was thinking it's time to see what everyone wants to do. My house, bar, restaurant? Where are we going to celebrate? We should be done pretty early in the morning, so we might have to drink mimosas.
